Golf And Aeroplanes
And so Day 1 kicked off at Miramar Golf Club. After a mid-morning flight from Dunedin to Wellington it was a bit of a scramble to make our 1 o clock tee time. The fact the golf clubhouse was 50 metres from the airport terminal was a great help.

Miramar is a fun course and we were helped by the fact we had winds not too strong. The greens were fast and true and good putting was rewarded. Ask Ray Grubb.

Scoring was good and overall it was a good start to the tour. Everyone had positive comments about the course, and if you like aeroplanes and golf, it's the perfect combination.
Wonder Why He's Grinning ...
What you see here is a man grinning because the practice he's been doing is paying off. This is the picture of a man who spends an hour each Wednesday at the lower putting green at Balmacewen honing his chipping and putting skills.

I got fined 5 bucks today by the Sheriff for doing the same thing !

All credit to John, because today on a day difficult day John cleaned up to take an early lead by scoring a very creditable 39 points.
What's Going On Here ?
So from memory this is the 7th green at Miramar, could be the 9th, and this is a group of people looking for the ball of David Peart.

The chatter was "could have hit the pro-shop window and bounced somewhere ", as it was not clear where David's ball had finished up.

No matter, David gathered his thoughts and his equilibrium and proceeded to break 40 for the second 9 which is a first for David. Great golfing David, well done on breaking 40 and driving the ball prodigious distances apparently. And straight.
Make Mine A Chocolate Ice Cream ....
After a long day on aeroplanes and on the Miramar Golf Course, those on food duty took the easy option and we all ate at the hotel.
The small steak weighed in at 600 gms and the large one 900 gms and with Dr Ross's advice we avoided that option. The food was good, the beer and wine flowed, and conversation never stopped. It was a good night.
Buzz and Eddie decided that chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce was the way to go. The sauce looked like something scraped from the back of a duck caught up in a major oil spill, and it ended up everywhere. The boys enjoyed it anyway !!
