Wainuiomata - What A Cracking Little Golf Course
Last day of the trip and we made the trip over the hill to Wainuiomata. We were warned to bring our passports and to expect all sorts of nonsense but what a great day out it was. It started off a bit chilly with a keen southerly blowing and it was a bit squishy underfoot in places due to recent rains. It's a great country course and a great contrast to our trip yesterday at Royal Wellington.
It was also the venue where the prizes and standings got finally sorted out but we did have The Eliminator competition running on the day. 3 teams cleaned that up and it's easier to say who didn't win rather than those that did. Congratulations to those who got their money back plus a bit.
18 Wagglers On Tour
Here's the group all keen to go shortly before the first 3 teed off.

It's interesting to note that one man scored the highest individual score this week and also the lowest. 39 points was the highest scored on Day 1 at Miramar G C. 17 was the lowest notched up today. Both those scores were recorded by John Alexander. How good is the game of golf and what a great leveller for all of us.

The average score this week has been about 28 points and on any day when you scored 30 points, you felt really good about it.
Top Marks For Accommodation
This week we've been hosted by the Rydges Hotel close to Parliament and it's been a great place to stay. The food has been good, breakfasts and dinner have been appreciated, and they've even supplied on-course meals to some.

Tonight we had our dinner to celebrate those who have been successful and victorious this week and the restaurant even went to the trouble of supplying a special chair for Buzz so he could see at the table.
Roomies Winners
Here's a couple of happy chaps celebrating their status as best roomies this year. Ask Yatesy for the scores for Ray and Phil who won the best Roomies combined score by a decent margin.

Phil could hardly contain his excitement and said it was the best thing he'd ever won at golf. Apparently when he gets the trophy back to Baxter Street it's going to take pride of place in the whole of the house !
Here's A Truly Great Story
Last year in Auckland, David Peart was dead set last. He got sick of wearing that horrible green vest and carrying around Dean's bowling ball. It was not a happy time for David and he vowed to do something about it.

Reminiscent of Kiwi winning the Melbourne Cup in 1983, David has charged through the field and in 2020 he was last in the field. This year he has won line honours and taken away The Archie. How good is that.

When asked what drove the turn-around, David gave a simple yet powerful reply - "practice"

I'm not sure there could have been a more popular winner this year - great stuff David and well done from all of us on tour with you.
And Finally .....
Here's the group enjoying a birthday shout at the Belgian Beer Cafe just along from the hotel. In usual fashion we sang happy birthday to two birthday boys - John Marsh and Eddie Walter. It was a great way to start the night and get the conversations flowing. Thanks to John and Eddie for shouting a decent shot of scotch to help us sing - much appreciated.

Finally thanks to all of those who have helped in making this trip successful and enjoyable. John Harley for all of the travel arrangements, John Yates for all of his on the ground work chasing everything down, Athol the sheriff and his deputies, Phil for organising a wonderful day at Royal Wellington. The list goes on and apologies to those who have been missed.

We've been blessed with wonderful weather, we've had more fun than most humans experience in a long time, we've shared stories, we've strengthened friendships, and we've played some golf.

Here's to the 2022 trip :}
