Ordinary Day On The Gold Coast
Great Day in Dunedin

Yeah Yeah Yeah ......

OK so the eagle eyed amongst you would have worked out there was no Gold Coast Day 3 update because there was no Day 3 golf played.  We assembled for lunch, some played cards in the afternoon, some went shopping, some went for a walk when the rain finally stopped, some did work and some played snooker.  We got through, had another fun night at the surf life saving club and all went to bed eagerly anticipating Day 4 at Brookwater.

So let's get to that without further delay.

Brookwater
South East Queensland's Hidden Gem

If you've never played Brookwater you should try.  Situated about 35 kms south west from Brisbane, the Brookwater Golf Course is spectacular.  Designed by Greg Norman, the course meanders through the trees, through many undulations and is a great test of golf.  Apart from being a great golf course it is visually stunning.  It's up there in my top 3 courses played.

That said I was discussing that concept with Duncan. Comparing Brookwater with a Scottish golf links course is like comparing an apple with a sausage.  Each is quite different.

At Brookwater we played the game where you add the best 2 scores in a team and then multiply that score by the third best in the team.

Scores will be updated with the Day 5 scores below.

Such has been the rainfall the courses have been a bit slippery.  One or two casualties have been evident.  Notice the bottom of Bob's bright red shirt and you can see where he landed up without much dignity on his backside.  He wasn't the only one ....

David Peart suffered a similar fate when he went looking for his ball and suffered a nasty fall going base over apex.  Others went looking for his ball and to add insult to injury, Keith found it hadn't quite made it to the ladies' tees. Ouch.

Day 5 Robina Woods

It's such a shame.  What used to be called Robina Woods is a lovely golf course with a really nice layout.  Some / most of the holes are fantastic.  With some noticeable elevation changes, tight fairways and strategic bunkering, the course could be wonderful.  It used to be wonderful.  However it's not having the same love and attention it once had, the course is looking a bit tired, and the greens were all over the place.

Here is a view of the 18th.  A sweeping par 5 from an elevated tee, past a large lake and on to the green in front of the clubhouse.  It looks for all the world a fantastic golf course, but it could be so much better.

Today we played fore and aft, and the team who took a while to finish won the day :}

Super Mario's

We've eaten at the surf life saving club most nights but tonight we ventured out and went Italian.  In fairness to Brucey it was he who took the intiative and found us somewhere nice to eat on the Broadbeach strip.  The trouble was, when we got to the restaurant, the menu clearly said - "one bill per table, no split bills."

So with 16 hungry and thirsty blokes sitting round a single table, there was a challenge ahead.

So we figured out a plan.  Bruce asked for the bill which duly arrived - all $846 bucks of it.  Then we agreed we would give Bruce the cash to cover what we had eaten and drunk.  So Bruce furiously started to collect the money.  "Hang on Bruce, you owe me a dollar 30" said some.  Bruce clearly had his eyes on the big picture.

Not to be disturbed Bruce counted it all up and found out he had 990 bucks in his hot little hand.  Bruce was last seen hot-footing out of the restaurant to book a Mediterranean cruise.  No he wasn't.  What we later found out Bruce had paid a $10 deposit for each of us, so if you do the math as the say in the US of A, it all worked out pretty well.

Good on you Bruce for taking us out of our comfort zone.
