Golf - Does It Get Any Better Than This ?

Para Pano.jpg

The weather forecast for Sunday was decidedly dodgy with strong winds and rain forecast for our trip to Paraparaumu.  Apparently it's like Mosgiel; it has its own microclimate - who knew ?

As can be seen from the photo, the skies were blue, the winds were a mere zephyr and it was an absolute privilege to be playing on one of the best courses in New Zealand.  The greens were true,  putting was fun again, and it was just a joy to be playing links golf.

Strange stuff happened though ...  As has been reported before, people got mixed up as to which golf ball belonged to which person.  Eddie and Vaughn got confused.  On a long par 4 both hit great drives and Vaughn put a ball on the green.  Trouble was it wasn't his ball.  As per the headline from Friday  how hard can it be ....

Then today was the coloured ball challenge.  We've all played it.  You take it in turn to play it, you have to keep it, and the team with the biggest score wins the prize.   Team Phil, Wozza, Athol plus guest claimed the top prize but not without controversy.

On one hole, the ball was sent way out of bounds into a neighbour's house.  The team went to look.  The neighbour was at the fence and said "does this belong to you, it just about cleaned me up".  The boys took possession.  Without any shame.

Then on the 16th, a par 3 with a bog and water hazard.  The ball was sent into said hazard or penalty area as they're now called.  Wozza went in on hands and knees to retrieve the diamond.  So they finished with the ball, claimed a score of 26 points and won the spoils.  Without any shame they trousered the money despite howls of protest from everyone else.  What some people will do for 20 bucks never ceases to amaze me.

Our Winner Today

Congratulations to Bob for winning the individual prize scoring a very creditable 36 points and taking out top prize.

Deano was close behind on 35 points ...

Bob and Deano played together and there was a bit of a kerfuffle on one green.... Deano was just off the green with his ball on the fringe and was just getting ready to putt.  Bob, driving his cart, proceeded to drive between Dean's ball and the hole.

Deano enjoyed the challenge of putting through the fringe, across the green and through 2 wheel tracks.

All ended on very friendly terms ...

Good Karma ....

This trip has not been without controversy when it comes to food consumed, who ate what, and who paid for what.

On night 1, there was someone who ordered broccoli, ate it, then never claimed that on their bill when it came to payment.  We have yet to discover who is the phantom broccoli eater.  On night 2 a similar thing happened and beers and wine were left out.

So there's a rugby scrum not to be the last to pay as whoever that is has to mop up all the residuals with the restaurant, and pay for a whole load of stuff they neither ate nor drank.

On Sunday the last in the queue were David and Neil.  It was with trepidation they arrived at the till to see what was still left to pay.  "What's left ?" they asked.  "Oh there's just a couple of beers, a side of fries, and one main meal."  David and Neil split the residuals and got off VERY LIGHTLY :}

Thanks to whoever paid for my fish - it tasted very nice :}
