The Christmas Blue Jacket

Giving our traditional Blue Jacket a well-earned rest, and maybe a little on the early side, we moved into festive season mode by awarding the Christmas Jacket for our winner this week.  On the back of 40 stableford points, Warren was the first to wear this high quality ( 25 bucks from K Mart !! ) alternative solution to line honours for the day.  I can advise the embroidery costs to get the Wagglers logo on the pocket cost more than the jacket.  Looks good though don't we all think.

But the most important order for the day was to give our president's tonsils a rest as he celebrated one short of a very big birthday.  With Eric turning 79, we all sang Happy Birthday and wished him all the best.  Thanks for the shout Eric.  Talking of birthdays .........

Having established we don't share birthday shouts and knowing it's Eric's birthday, and knowing that Deano and Eric share a birthday, that must mean it's also Deano's birthday.  That birthday shout is next week.

So come one and all and help Deano celebrate.  If you live in Central Otago or Christchurch and are planning a trip to Dunedin, why not make it next week.  Deano would love to see you there.  Bring you friends, bring your families, the more the merrier for this one :}

Derek's Fun Day Out

This picture shows Deano and Derek arguing the toss over the origins of the Swinger's Trophy.  Each trying to placate the other with the friendly arm on the shoulder with each saying " now listen here, I'm the one who knows what this is all about".  The TMO on Sunday morning would have called this a neck roll.

However, what we know is;

- Derek had 3 birdies and so took out the Balclutha big night out award

- Derek also won the weekly raffle

- Not all plain sailing for our man from Scotland.  On hole 3 he played a poor second shot which found the right hand side bunker at the front of the green.  Also from Scotland the bunkers are more like porridge than anything else.  Derek tried a decent bunker shot which he shanked !!  Oh no.  The ball flew sideways out of the bunker and looked for all money like it was heading for Balmacewen Road and out of bounds.  However the ball ricocheted off a concrete power pole, came back across the green, and finished no more than 12 inches from the hole.  Easy par.......

Bruce of the Carvell variety was in another porridge bunker at the left hand side of hole 9.  "What should I do here David ?" Bruce enquired.  "Well if I were you I would just chip it out like a normal chip shot and play it like that". So Bruce did, it pitched 3 feet from the hole, rolled along and dropped in for a birdie.  "I should listen to you more often" said Bruce ....." nah, on second thoughts"

In the sixes, Hamish, Murray E, Bolty and birthday boy Eric shared $125 with future LIV golfer pro shop Mike, Vaughn, Phil Ellis and the Nugget.  30 points was enough for that.  The same Nuggetty team took out the middle sixes with 43 points.  Finally Eric and co. shared the final set with Deano, Keith, Warren and Alistair.  52 points.

And Finally

On Monday the Board approved the trialling of the artificial turf recovered from the Otago Hockey Association.  We'll build a temporary wooden frame and give that material a go.  FYI we have $7,500 accumulated in the Wagglers Capital Fund.

For the Christmas party on the 13th of December, we agreed the club would provide us a meal and we wouldn't do a BBQ - too many people for that.

Don't forget the cross country golf tournament on Friday 6th December.  I suggest we could play skins in the afternoon at the usual time then swing more or less straight in to cross country golf.  Entry fees are $10 for the cross country fun with that starting at 4:30 pm.  If you want to send me through your interest in having some fun and playing cross country golf, let me know and I'll register with the pro shop.
